Saba Comprehensive School is de enige instelling voor voortgezet onderwijs op het prachtige eiland Saba. Per 1 augustus 2026 is Saba Comprehensive School op zoek naar een docent voor de volgende gecombineerde functie:
Docent Nederlands met als specialisatie NT2/NvT (1,0 fte)
Onze nieuwe collega beschikt over een onderwijsbevoegdheid (Nederlands tweede graads) en een specialisatie in NT2. U gaat Nederlands geven dat geexamineerd gaat worden met een Staatsexamen of CNaVT. Tevens heeft u ervaring in het geven van Nederlands als tweede taal.
Als onderwijsprofessional is de kandidaat in staat om 21e-eeuwse vaardigheden toe te passen en te onderwijzen, te differentiëren en leerlingen zowel binnen als buiten de klas passende, holistische begeleiding en aandacht te bieden. U beschikt over sterke interpersoonlijke en communicatieve vaardigheden en bent in staat een gestructureerde en ondersteunende leeromgeving te creëren.
In deze functie bent u mentor en hoofdvakdocent Nederlands als tweede taal. Onze leerlingen kunnen een Spaanse, Engelse, Haitiaanse, Creoolse of Nederlandstalige achtergrond hebben maar omdat Engels de voertaal is op Saba is Nederlands in de meeste gevallen niet de moedertaal. Als mentor ondersteunt u hen bij hun persoonlijke ontwikkeling en onderwijskundige voortgang.
Wat wij bieden
Wij bieden een contract voor bepaalde tijd, in eerste instantie voor de duur van één jaar, met de mogelijkheid tot verlenging bij goed functioneren.
De salariëring vindt plaats volgens de geldende salarisschalen voor het voortgezet onderwijs op de Nederlandse BES-eilanden, Startende bij LB, aangevuld met een Saba-toelage van 12%. De loonbelasting op Saba bedraagt maximaal 35,4%.
Daarnaast omvat het arbeidsvoorwaardenpakket:
- vakantiegeld en een eindejaarsuitkering;
- deelname aan het Pensioenfonds Caribisch Nederland (PCN);
- vakantie volgens het vakantierooster voor onderwijspersoneel van SCS;
- een vliegticket en verhuisondersteuning voor kandidaten die naar Saba verhuizen;
- mogelijkheden voor professionele ontwikkeling.
Benoemingsvoorwaarden
- Een Verklaring Omtrent het Gedrag (VOG) is verplicht voor werkzaamheden in het onderwijs;
- Een medische keuring ten behoeve van toelating tot het pensioenfonds;
- Een kopie van de behaalde diploma’s dient bij de sollicitatie te worden toegevoegd;
- Indien diploma’s zijn behaald in een ander land dan Nederland of de voormalige Nederlandse Antillen, dienen deze te worden gewaardeerd door de Dienst Uitvoering Onderwijs (DUO).

Sollicitatieprocedure

As of August 1, 2026, Saba Comprehensive School is looking for a teacher for the following combined position:
Teacher of Dutch with a specialization in NT2/NvT (1.0 FTE)
Our new colleague holds a valid teaching qualification (Dutch, second-degree) and a specialization in NT2 (Dutch as a Second Language). You will teach Dutch courses that are examined through the State Examination or CNaVT. You also have experience in teaching Dutch as a second language.
As an education professional, you are able to apply and teach 21st-century skills, differentiate instruction, and provide students with appropriate, holistic guidance and support both inside and outside the classroom. You possess strong interpersonal and communication skills and are capable of creating a structured and supportive learning environment.
In this role, you will serve as a mentor and the main subject teacher for Dutch as a second language. Our students may have Spanish-, English-, Haitian-, Creole-, or Dutch-speaking backgrounds; however, as English is the primary language on Saba, Dutch is not the native language in most cases. As a mentor, you will support them in their personal development and academic progress.
What we offer
We offer a fixed-term contract, initially for a period of one year, with the possibility of extension based on satisfactory performance.
Salary is determined according to the applicable pay scales for secondary education in the Dutch Caribbean (BES islands), starting at scale LB, supplemented by a 12% Saba allowance. Income tax on Saba is a maximum of 35.4%.
In addition, the employment package includes:
- Holiday allowance and an end-of-year bonus;
- Participation in the Caribbean Netherlands Pension Fund (PCN);
- Vacation in accordance with the SCS school holiday schedule;
- A flight ticket and relocation support for candidates moving to Saba;
- Opportunities for professional development.
Appointment requirements
- A Certificate of Good Conduct (VOG) is required for working in education;
- A medical examination for admission to the pension fund;
- A copy of obtained diplomas must be included with the application;
- If diplomas were obtained outside the Netherlands or the former Netherlands Antilles, they must be evaluated by the Dutch organization for education services (DUO).
